This week I contributed to a Westminster Hall Debate on Cold and Damp Homes as Opposition Spokesperson.

Everyone deserves to live in a home that is warm, dry and safe - This is something that all Members across all parties agree on. There is a clear need to improve housing standards, particularly in social housing. I would be the first to admit that the last government did not go far enough in supporting the social housing sector. I am determined to change that, because I grew up on a council estate and saw first-hand the impact that government policy could have on communities.

This debate was not only concerning new homes, but also to discuss the need for legislation for the proper and safe maintenance of existing and ageing stock.

I will be working with the Government, and holding them accountable, to ensure that landlords have nowhere to hide, and to see that tenants are protected from dangerous living standards.
