Last week, as opposition spokesperson I contributed to a Westminster Hall Debate to discuss the role of water companies in new housing development planning.
I raised the issue of new housing estates that are inadequately connected to sewer or drainage systems, resulting in developments that are unusable.
I also highlighted concerns raised by water companies, particularly regarding the One Horton Heath development, where they feel their views have been ignored during the planning process.
Additionally, I voiced my apprehension about the Government's target of 1.5 million new homes, emphasising the need for greater clarity on the reforms they plan to implement.
Home ownership should be a reality for hard-working families. New homes must be the right homes in the right places. Development must be sensitive to local needs, sustainable in its approach and guided by the voices of the communities that it serves - including water services.
