I’m horrified by Eastleigh Borough Council’s decision to permanently switch off CCTV across Eastleigh, Hedge End, and other local parishes.
This is a deeply irresponsible move that puts public safety at risk, all in the name of a cost-cutting measure. CCTV plays a vital role in deterring crime, supporting police investigations, and giving residents peace of mind.
Scrapping it now, without proper public consultation or a clear plan for alternatives, is unacceptable.
The public deserves to feel safe in our town centres and communities, not left in the dark. I can assure you, this decision will be challenged.
I will be writing to EBC and seeking a meeting with their leadership, and I am working alongside the Police and Crime Commissioner, Donna Jones to look for a solution that prioritises the safety of our community.
