Process for accessibility lifts at Hedge End and Swanwick Railway Stations begins!
I am delighted to announce that Hedge End and Swanwick Railway stations are going to begin the process of receiving funding for accessibility lifts as part of the Government's Accessibility for All Scheme.
This is something I have campaigned on since being elected as the Member of Parliament for Eastleigh, back in 2019. Before the 2024 election, the previous Conservative Government announced plans and funding for these lifts, however as we were all disappointed to see, the current Labour Government scrapped this pledge as soon as they took office.
I have worked tirelessly to make the Government listen and perform another U-turn, and I’m pleased to say that pressure has paid off. Earlier this month, it was announced that Hedge End and Swanwick stations have been added to the list of sites undergoing feasibility studies, officially beginning the process towards new accessibility lifts.
These lifts will be a lifeline, ensuring that those with mobility issues and families using prams and buggies can access our local train services and are not disadvantaged. This is a pledge I made when you first elected me as your MP.
Promise delivered.
I am so proud of the campaign we have fought together to obtain this vital funding. It has been inspiring to see everyone rally round and stand up for our communities, just as I will continue to do.
